For those of you who don't know, the Eve Online Hold'Em thread can be found here:
http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=681663
Eve Online Hold'Em is teaming up with Otherworld Enterprises (thanks Chribba) to bring you something that has been talked about since our channel's inception. We will be hosting a 1050 million ISK buy-in tournament with a minimum of 9 players, and a maximum of 18 players. Since this is a large sum of money and many of you may not be familiar or trusting with our services, we have asked Chribba to assist us by holding buyins for this tournament.
Tournament Rules:
The tournament will take place on either May 2nd or 3rd, in the US evening/Euro night timeslot. As people buy in this time will be nailed down to accommodate as many players as possible.
At a minimum we will have a 9-man table (otherwise see the section below for details), and at most we will allow 18 players. In the case of a 9-man game, the pot will be split between 1st and 2nd for 7.0 / 2.0 billion ISK. In the event of 10-18 players, we will randomly place players at one of two tables, keeping numbers on both tables as close as possible.
We do NOT have a tournament merging feature, so to determine 1st and 2nd, the winners of each tournament table will face off in a 1v1 for the prizes, which will start off at 7.0/2.0 billion, and will increase by 700/300 million per buyin past the 9th. Therefore the maximum payout given an 18-man tournament will be 13.3 / 4.7 Billion ISK.
The rake on each buyin will go towards paying Chribba for his services, with funds left over to be saved for future EOH events (read: spoiling the customers).
How to Buy Into the Tournament:
We will be using a lottery tracking system to determine who has bought in. Please send EXACTLY 1050 million ISK (the buy-in) to Chribba's alt Nhadala. DO NOT send ISK to me, Chribba, or anyone else other than Nhadala. Also, the following text must be included in the description:
#EOH#11111
Where 11111 can be any 5-digit number (please do not use 11111), which you should remember (write it down). If you then have a question and give me this number, I can confirm that you have bought in, are legitimately the person wanting a withdrawl from the tournament, or other issues.
If you do not follow this format we will not see your buyin!
Other Conditions:
Chribba's ISK-holding service has been retained "as-is". This means in the extremely unlikely event that Chribba goes missing or decides it's time to ruin his e-life for a small number of billions, EOH will not be responsible for lost buy-ins.
If a participant pays and does not show up to the tournament to play, they will be refunded 1000 million ISK, with the rest retained for dealing with the scheduling hassle. If we are unable to meet the minimum of a full table of nine, all participants will be refunded in full unless the active participants agree at the time of the tournament to continue anyway.
The Poker Mavens software can sometimes experience lag issues due to player connections. Before the tournament starts we will have a brief testing period where we will make sure that all participants can play on our tables without a freezing/lag situation. If we pin down the problems to a player's connection to our services, we will refund them and ask them to step out of the tournament in order to allow others to play. This will be done before an official start to ensure a game for such a large amount of money goes as smoothly as possible.
In the unlikely event of server death, we will deal with this as we do normal games: anyone who has dropped out of the tournament has lost their buy-in, and the pot will be split evenly among all surviving participants. We do not allow refunds in case of disconnects unless the player has nearly all starting chips and it is within the first few hands, in order to prevent abuse.

Looking good so far, four people in and still over a week to go. Once a couple more sign up we'll start nailing down the exact time to accommodate those early buyins.

What happens if the time/date you decide to hold the tourny does not allow me to participate? Will I be given a full refund?
Thanks.
Actually I am about to announce the starting time right now, so that everyone has a better idea of whether they can attend or not. And I state in the rules above that if you buy in and don't attend, we refund except for what would have been rake, as a scheduling fee. Unless the entire tourney is cancelled for some reason, then it's full refunds.
See the first post for the tournament time now.

should you hold a tourament at a good time for europe, i would be interested :)
I was debating a couple hours earlier, I lose euro on one end and west coast US on the other ;) I suppose with it being a Saturday the US folks can be around in the late afternoon / early evening.
Let's go with 21:00 to make it more reasonable. Shouldn't last more than 2 hours with some prep time before the game starts, so no one should have to stay up all night. If I get a strong response against a certain time we can figure something out, even if we have to have a US table and a euro table (doubtful) ;)

The client is an out of game graphical client, all other information is in this thread or in the channel MOTD and in-game link in our channel MOTD. Feel free to evemail me if anything isn't clear from these sources!
Originally by: Arik VanClaw How cool, Poker in EVE. When's the low roller event lol?
We run "regular" high stakes games in our channel throughout the day with buyins ranging from 17-105m, with 1v1 matches on request going much higher. We also operate a channel called Low Stakes Hold'Em which does 1.1-11m buyins, which allows people to test out the software, and play even if they're poor or cheap =D

Originally by: 5ylar my deposit was sent today at 12:46 but still im not on a table. Any idea why?
Please check to make sure it was exactly 1050 million and sent to the alt of Chribba's specified above. Also you had to have the proper text in the description. Contact me in-game with details so we can sort you out.

Originally by: Chalion Winning money for this as we speak.
Why not open up all 5 tables and do a 5 table shoot out style tourney ? It would be a more "realistic" style to play then having people play heads up for final places, will also get more people into the game and increase your rake with minimal extra man power. Winner of each table gets x amount and moves to final table, final table pays 1st and maybe 2nd.
The reason this didn't happen was because I was feeling hopeful in getting 18 players, let alone 45 =D If there are so many entrants that we could fill 3 or 4 full tables, I suppose we could expand, but I will need to hear back from the current 14 people who have bought in if they would approve of this, as well as whatever method we could use to determine the winner. Suggestions by you and others in this thread will be helpful as long as they are expedient, there are only 3 days until the tournament. I will not change anything if it will make anyone who has bought in feel cheated.

Originally by: Tomash Kovahlsky I would rather keep the riginal format. A larger scale event could be organized later on, and also spread across 2-3 days (if organized in similar time slot - eg. night time in EU).
Agreed, not worth the hassle this time around. Looks like we almost have enough people now. As with most events, I assume some people will not show up, so we'll take up to 5 reserve slots, listed in the order they pay. This way we should be guaranteed full tables on Saturday.
Now what would be really nice is if there were some way to broadcast the games as they are played ... =D

Edited by: Selene D''Celeste on 30/04/2008 16:37:32 I've added in rules for the reserve spots. At this point all buyins are reserve, unless someone withdrawls prior. Rules are in green in the main posts.
Given how much interest there has been and three days to go, I still will not edit the tournament format. But if folks are interested in a side game of say 5-9 people playing for a bil each, we can run that side game for any reserve folk who don't get into the big game itself.
Please let me know if interested, also several people have asked for repeat tournaments like this one. Please post ideas and feedback about that either here or in our main thread (link is in first post), so that we can organize some more fun =D

Please do not evemail Nhadala, the number listed on the main post needs to be in the description when money is sent for the API to pick it up.

There's no need to be pedantic here, no one said you weren't getting your money back. I was just reminding everyone to send the numbers correctly and not to use evemail so we don't have to process this manually and the automated system works.
You happen to be at the top of the backup list, and one of the main 18 has already withdrawn. Do you still want that refund?

I'll get that refund arranged. Reserve slots are still open, and there's always the ability to run a side game if we have enough reservists left over too.
Let's keep posts on topic and the trolling / insults down to a minimum here.

Just a reminder folks, 17 hours until the tournament and there is NO ONE on the reserve list. At least a couple of people will probably not be able to attend tomorrow, and those on top of the reserve list will get first shot at filling the holes in the 18-man Tournament. If you're on reserve and don't get bumped up into the Tournament you get a full refund, so you have nothing to lose! |

Captain bumped into a tourney slot, Yoshida moved to reserve. Remember folks, some people might not be able to make it and we will have slots open! We'll close the reservations to Nhadala at 19:00 Eve time (ONE hour from now) so that the API will grab everyone. After that, payment will be directly to me. We want a full game here, so if you've been waiting on this NOW is the time to buy in. |

Well this is all over but EOH is still going strong! Also I'll be announcing the reemergence of our weekly tournaments again soon, and perhaps we'll have another epic tournament one of these days (in a month?) =D
We now have a mailing list for tournament announcements EOH ANNOUNCE.
Also, could a moderator please close this thread, nothing more to add here. Other threads will handle it from here. Oh and special thanks again to Chribba and also ISD for their wonderful article helping to make this happen =)
